“The Thinking eye”  Educational Programs

Abstract: They determine nowadays in many ways our daily action- the so called new media, like smart phone, social media, TV and a emerging flood of advertisement and custom control. Especially children growing up in the digital age need to get control of the consumption and influential of information systems.

 

Team: Since more than 25 years, in the United States, Germany, France, Dietmar Ohlmann and Odile Meulien have been given different types of educational programs from pupils to students and professionals. No technical background is required for the courses, their method is based on perception, experience, experimentation and technical initiation.

Goal: The overall goal of the teaching is to participate in the understanding of new media, develop creativity and apply it in our everyday life. “The thinking eye” method is considering the creative process of drawing, painting and photography, as well as the perception it implies. The teaching does not just prepare about what we can do with new media, but also the trick, constraint, multiple choices which can overcome the about, why, how and what we create. The program also implies the how it improves what we perceive and feel. The programs give participants a reflection and a method to develop their own creativity.

Programs: We run different types of programs for educational institutions like schools, colleges and universities, recreation centers and museums. Each program is readjusted to fit specific educational objectives and requirements in term of time, space and financial resources. For further information, please do not hesitate to ask.

Methodology: Exchange, experimentation and reflection, critical discussion, Comparison in other art forms techniques and nature, will create the canvas of these programs as well as practical teaching, and tutorial project.

“The Thinking eye”  Bildungsprogramme

DeutschVorwort: Sie bestimmen heutzutage auf vielfache Weise unseren Alltag – die sogenannten neuen Medien, darunter Handys, Facebook, Youtube & Co., dazu kommen Fernsehen und eine mittlerweile immense  Werbeflut.  Speziell für Kinder und Jugendliche möchten wir in Workshops aufzeigen, wie in Sachen Konsum und Einfluss genannter Informationssysteme ein sinnvoller Umgang umsetzbar ist.

Team:  Seit 25 Jahren gaben Dietmar Öhlmann und Odile Meulien in verschiedene Länder ihre „Workshops“, in den USA, Deutschland und Frankreich, zu Schülern, Studenten und einem Fachpublikum. Die Kurse haben keine Vorrausetzungen, ihren Methoden setzen auf experimentelle und praktische Erfahrungen.

Ziel des Unterrichts ist es, das Verständnis für neuen Medien und den kreativen Umgang zu fördern und Sicherheiten zu fordern. Unsere Methode „das denkende Auge“ beruht aus einem kreativen Prozess der beim Zeichnen, Malen, Fotografie und auch bei der bloßen Betrachtung eines Objektes wahrgenommen wird. Der Unterricht handelt nicht nur über den Gebrauch neuer Medien sondern macht auch unsere Zwänge, Probleme und Gefahren bewusst, gibt aber gleichzeitig Inspirationen für einen bewussten Umgang mit neuen Medien.

Programme: Wir haben speziell angepasste Programme für Bildungseinrichtungen wie Schulen, Hochschulen und öffentliche Einrichtungen. Je nach Art der Veranstaltung sind zeitliche und räumliche Anforderungen zu stellen. Gerne beantworten wir Ihre Anfragen.

Methoden: Austausch, experimentieren, probieren und reflektieren, kritische Betrachtung und Diskussionen, Vergleiche zwischen Medien, Angewandt und in der Kunst.

All our programs starts with appreciation and discovery of artworks and visual imagining. What do we see? Observation, exchange and questioning. Interpretation of perception, language and communication, as well as the relation to natural phenomena. Perception of the many information – The confrontation of new technologies, research in physics and spiritual awareness – Science delivers new images which contradict some traditional thoughts, confronts some others. Socio-cultural issues. Previous Philosophical approaches of Reality- The image, the surface, the media?

 

The following part are organised in workshops and engages the student in creating a project.

There are many ways to do an image, without even doing an image or by using several media together. Certainly, there are some standard rules to apply, but their limitation will always be neglected in the artistic and creative concept. Experiencing the different techniques involved. Not seen it from the point of technical experimentation, looking beyond the reality of image making. What is the surface? The image? The communication? A pattern? Creation starts in the concept. When visual concept fits with all what we try to express, then we try to find the camera (set up with laser and optics camera, computer program, canvas and brushes) which can make it

When possible the last part is conceived as a show with the works of the participants

The eye of the friends, family, is always securing and valorizing the works of the participants: they realize they have learned something they can transmit.
